Burned Residence

May 1, 1992

This is what remained of a private residence on Manhattan Pl. and 15th St. I don't think many homes were deliberately torched, but sometimes the fires spread unchecked. Because of the number of simultaneous blazes, it was impossible for the fire department to put most of them out. In some cases firefighters were shot at by snipers, making firefighting nearly impossible. Many structures simply burned until there was nothing left to burn. Well over a thousand buildings in L.A. were damaged or destroyed by arson.
